Featured client: Ewin’s Dry Goods

Another handsome set of banners from a Shopify store owner. Ewin’s Dry Goods sells some really cool old-fashioned items. The team here is saving up to buy pretty much everything in the store.

These banners have a great combination of photography (sepia-toned for that turn of the century look), color scheme (black bars with white text), and font (Tallys…always classy), so we thought we’d share:

Here’s the original template.

Version 2.0 of our Shopify app

Things are getting exciting in Canned Banners | Shopify Land. This week we launched version 2.0 of our Shopify app.

How have we made the app better? We’re so glad you asked:

  • Our app now auto-populates the banner ad template with product photo, product name, product price, and the Shopify store name. This means that your ads are 90% done in mere seconds.
  • We completed the template set available in the app. The available sizes are now 160×600, 300×250, and 728×90.

Have a look at the demo video to see all the hot e-commerce ad building action:

What’s next? Well, we still need to add more template choices (still just the one banner template, but it’s a flexible one!), and we’re planning on adding a subscription plan for stores that need to make more than just one or two sets of ads.

Oh, and look out for the app on other e-commerce platforms as well…mwuh huh hah hah hah

April 29, 2011—Canned Banners rolls out self-serve, ecomm option

New Canned Banners app lets Shopify merchants quickly create banner ads

Listen up, Shopify store owners! With the new app from Canned Banners, you can now create Flash banner ads right from your store’s administration console. OMG, right?

This is one of the coolest things Canned Banners has made yet. Check out the demo video and prepare to be amazed:

What’s the point of all this? Shopify makes it easy to create an online store and start selling. Canned Banners makes it easy to create banner ads for online advertising that will drive more customers to said store. In the Pantheon of Great E-Commerce Ideas, we believe this falls squarely into the “Pure Gold” category.

The app is free to install from the Shopify App Store. Banners made with the app start at $30 apiece…a significant savings for Shopify store owners!

Once a Shopify store owner has made a banner ad, it can be used anywhere that accepts standard Flash ads, such as our partner AdRoll, which also happens to have a Shopify app.

How does this magical app work? Well, it turns out Shopify has a right dandy API. When a Shopify client is making a banner, our app uses Shopify’s API to automatically load the images from their online store, so they don’t have to go looking for them. In the future, we’ll be able to grab info like store name, product name, and price, meaning that our app will literally be able to create a banner ad instantly.

In conclusion: if you’re a Shopify customer, use our app to make some banner ads. If you’re not a customer, go ahead and make some banner ads with “Classic” Canned Banners. Then go check out Shopify. They offer a 30-day free trial, so if you’ve been itching to try your hand at e-commerce, you’ve got nothing standing in your way.

Featured client: Loja do Arco

Loja do Arco, in the heart of the historic center of Sintra, Portugal, is dedicated to disseminating Portuguese culture in the areas of literature, music, and traditional crafts. They created a very nice banner ad yesterday using Canned Banners:

Not only is this a handsome banner ad, but it’s the first one that’s ever been done in Portugese using Canned Banners. Anybody want to tell us what it says? :-)

UPDATE: Loja do Arco sent us the translated English: “You never had better reasons to buy national; 3 of the big names in portuguese music; Click here to buy online”

A few things to note about Loja do Arco’s banner:

  • The logo is in transparent PNG format, so the black background is still visible behind the white logo (and a very nice logo at that)
  • They kept the text (whatever it says) brief
  • They chose a banner template that suited the small thumbnail images they wanted to use

We also found out the Loja do Arco’s online store is built on the Shopify e-commerce platform and they found us through our partner ad network AdRoll. Our three companies make a great combo, don’t they? One lets you easily build a professional online store, one lets you quickly launch retargeting campaigns to drive traffic to your store, and one lets you create really nice-looking banner ads quickly and inexpensively.
